Thebin.co.za turns 1 and launches thebin.co.za version 2

On the 17th of November 2005 The Circusninja. Collective launched our online store www.thebin.co.za. We have had over 422 000 views of the site in just 364 days and had global interest making sales as far and wide as USA, Hong Kong, U.K and Sweden.

1 year later we offer you The Bin Online v2.0 – an entirely reworked design with updated functionality and increased user friendliness.

We’re sure you’ll find the new site a pleasure to browse!

Version 2 includes:

Design the masthead:
This idea is not unique but we like it so much we’ve decided to implement it on our site.

The idea is to promote and expose design talent through www.thebin.co.za

Each month the masthead will be changed to feature work by a new designer. The design is open brief and everyone is invited to submit their interpretation of the concept.

RSS:
Short for RDF Site Summary or Rich Site Summary, an XML format for syndicating Web content. A Web site that wants to allow other sites to publish some of its content creates an RSS document and registers the document with an RSS publisher. A user that can read RSS-distributed content can use the content on a different site. Syndicated content includes such data as news feeds, events listings, news stories, headlines, project updates, excerpts from discussion forums or even corporate information.

This basically means you can pull content from our website to your RSS reader

Advanced Search:
We’ve incorporated a new search system that is not only more efficient but also faster.

We strive to continuously develop our site to provide the best service and thank everyone for their support of the online store over the past year.

Unit R- Clap by Fly on the wall

Fly on the Wall is proud to present the launch of our latest music video "clap" for Unit R

Please come along and have a gander

The video will be posted on our video bar on our website the following week but it’s always better on the big screen with a few coolies down the hatch and the excitement in the air!

Many thanks to all who made this possible and a huge big up to Ontwerp for the post production
The 2006 Thupelo workshop will take place at Rorkes Drift from November 11th to November 25.

Many of the artists who graduated from Rorkes Drift have been involved in Thupelo. Due to the concern they expressed about the centre, we decided to work with Tami Jali and Christiane Voith, Centre manager at ELC Art & Craft Centre, and bring artists from various backgrounds to work together for a two week period.

This is an unusual experience as most artists work alone and have little time to develop and discuss their work. This time allows them to interaction with new people, exchange ideas, experiences, materials, skills and information. They will all do a presentation about the art in their home country, enrich their working experience and return to their communities with new information, stories and friendships. This workshop will include six artists from Rorkes Drift and others from Kenya, Zimbabwe, Cape Town, Umlazi, Durban, Venda, U.K, USA, Nigeria, Pakistan, Lesotho, Tanzania and Eritrea. We selected these artists from 51 international applications.

There will be an open day on Saturday the 25th. David Koloane, Lionel Davis, Pat Mautloa and Voyile Voyiya will join the artists and visitors to view the work.
